The view from Stac Pollaidh in Assynt, NW Scotland, looks out across a low craggy landscape of crystalline, high-grade metamorphic rocks of Lewisian (Archaean) age. The Torridonian lies unconformably on the eroded surface of the Lewisian, and stands out as it is much darker in appearance. Mountains made up of Torridonian sandstones, such as Suilven (seen side-on here), are the eroded remnants of a formerly extensive outcrop.
