The No. 9 and No. 6 levels at Cwmrheidol drain mineworkings that come to surface in the Ystumtuen area to the NE. In late 1993, during torrential rain, a stream near Ystumtuen broke through into shallow workings. The floodwater roared out of the No. 6 level, and surging downhill, washed tons of debris down to cover the No. 9 entrance area.
