No coastal photography gallery can be complete without a clear I.D. image of the Lesser Weever. This one was caught by an
angler at Aberdyfi Jetty. 1-5 inches long, and looking a bit like a tiny whiting, they are the only inshore fish that is venomous
(there is a Greater Weever that is caught from boats). Characteristic markings include the yellowish tail and, most obviously,
the black dorsal fin - whose spines carry the venom. A clear spine on each gill-cover is also venomous. Best avoided!
